Our Client’s Challenge

Our Construction and Project Management client required a highly experienced Construction Technical Authority (CTA) to oversee four pharmaceutical construction sites across the MENA Region.

Our Approach and the Agreement/ Our Response

Populus were commissioned and retained to identify, attract and hire a highly experienced CTA to manage the 4 sites in different locations. Working on a contract basis, the successful candidate was required to ensure safe construction and demolition management at these sites, provide input into the construction project execution plan, write the project execution strategy and EHS strategy amongst other critical responsibilities. Given the international nature of the role, language and cultural awareness skills were a priority, as such it was critical the successful candidate was fluent in French, English and Arabic.

The Process

Our contract team responded to the brief with alacrity, looking through the brief to fill in any knowledge and requirement gaps. Within the contract team, there is a construction specialist who took on the leadership for fulfilling this critical role for our client.

Joe researched until he found 12 candidates with the right background and experience who would fit the client’s requirements.

Of these candidates, he qualified several before submitting four profiled CVs to the client. 

After managing an in depth selection and interview process the ultimately successful candidate was flown to the Populus offices in UK and inducted before flying out to the respective sites.

Three Client Successful Outcomes

1.         Mobilisation

The successful candidate was appointed after 4 weeks of the brief and mobilised to the construction sites within 7 weeks. Populus assisted with the smooth induction and mobilisation of the candidate and ensured all the required visas were in place.

2.         New Locus of Excellence

The new CTA’s experience and cultural background enabled them to successfully assume this critical leadership position very quickly, at remote sites with challenging environments.

3.         Expanding the Team

The client was so pleased with the outcome and speed of hire, Populus were retained to replicate the process for a further 16 sites globally.
